2.42 Ludlow (Thu 26 Feb) — Pyoneer Ale Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (3m, Soft)🏇⤵️👇

·

Six mares, three miles, soft ground. This is not a race for maybes. You need a stayer who jumps, travels, and keeps finding when it turns into a slog from the home turn.
What wins this
Ludlow over 3m on soft usually rewards:
Proven stamina (not “should stay”)
Clean jumping
Position turning in (you don’t want to be making up ground in the mud)
The shortlist
Tankardstown Diva (7/2)
She’s the sensible one. Recent win at Plumpton over 3m1f on soft tells you she’ll stay and cope with conditions. She’s also top of the HRB/TimeWise totals, which fits a mare arriving in form and still fairly treated. If she jumps round, she’s got the right profile for this exact race.
Love Of Neymore (11/4 fav)
On ability, she’s a major threat. She’s mixed it in stronger staying handicaps and has the class edge on bits of form. But she comes with a proper red flag: latest run ended before it began (unseated at the start). In a small-field stamina test you can’t afford a mare who might beat herself.
Magical Maggie (4/1)
Ludlow clearly suits her and she won here on soft earlier this month, doing it the right way (prominent, jumped, kept going). The question is the extra distance: she’s stepping up from 2m5f to 3m in the mud. If she stays, she’s bang there.
Masked Dance (9/2)
Honest and usually runs her race, but top weight in soft-ground staying hurdles is hard work. She was second to Magical Maggie last time and might find this turns into a test of graft rather than class.
I Am The Moon (7/2)
Arrives off a Doncaster win on soft and gets a 5lb claim, so she’s not dismissed. But she’s got to prove she truly wants 3m, and she’s had the odd messy run. At the price, you’re paying for potential rather than certainty.
Ring O Roses (33/1)
Too many non-completions/pulled-ups. Needs a miracle.
Verdict
This looks set up for the mare with the fewest questions at 3m on soft.
Selection: Tankardstown Diva
Proven stayer in the ground, in form, and the ratings back her up.
Main danger: Love Of Neymore (if she behaves)
Each-way/place mindset: Magical Maggie (if she stays the extra furlongs in the soft ground)
