Seven runners, big money, sharp track. This is a Lingfield 6f handicap where position matters as much as raw ability. Low draws help you get the rail into the turn, and in a small field you don’t want to be doing extra work wide.
What this race demands
Early speed without overcooking it: you need to hold a spot into the bend.
A turn of foot off the home turn: Lingfield can make closers look flat if they’re forced wide.
Proven AW 6f form: Class 2 sprints don’t forgive guesswork.
The one to beat: El Bodon
He’s the most straightforward profile in the race. Three AW runs, three wins, and his recent Class 2 form at Kempton reads like a horse on the up rather than one clinging on. He travels, he finds, and he’s got the right sort of racing style for this place. Stall 5 isn’t perfect, but with only seven runners he should still get a handy position if he breaks cleanly.
The main danger: Lakers
If you’re looking for the value angle, it’s the horse in stall 1. That draw can be a genuine edge round here, especially if the pace is only fair and they’re turning it into a sprint off the bend. Lakers is unexposed compared to some of these and can finish his race. He doesn’t need to improve much to get involved if he gets the run of it.
The classy yardstick: Ferrous
Last year’s winner and a serious AW operator. The problem is he’s topweight and giving weight away in a race where small margins decide it. He can absolutely run well again, but from a handicapping point of view he looks more like the one to hit the frame than the one to have in a vice.
The others
Fast Track Harry has the nice draw (stall 2) but comes here off a break and this is a proper Class 2.
Sergeant Wilko has ability, but stall 7 is the sort of starting point that forces you into decisions you don’t want to make.
Little Empire is honest, but this is a jump in grade.
An Outlaw’s Grace has old form, but the layoff and recent profile don’t scream “ready”.
Verdict
This looks set up for the horse with the cleanest current Class 2 sprint profile.
Selection: El Bodon
Biggest threat: Lakers (draw 1)
Next best: Ferrous (solid, but burdened)
If you’re betting to win, keep it simple: El Bodon.
