3.35 Newbury – BetVictor Watch Weekend Winners Novices’ Hurdle (2m4½f, Good to Soft)🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a seven-runner novice, but it reads like a straight shoot-out.
The shape of the race
Newbury over 2m4½f is a proper test: you need to travel, jump clean, and stay on up the long run-in. With no obvious tearaway, it could become a race where the best mover off the bridle wins rather than the biggest grinder.
The two that matter
Talk To The Man sets the standard for what he’s done under Rules in Britain. That Taunton win on heavy wasn’t pretty-ground theatre, but it was solid: he travelled close to the pace, took control before two out, and went away. That’s the profile you want in a novice stepping into Class 3 — uncomplicated, improving, and already proven at roughly the right trip. Nicholls/Cobden is the strongest jockey-trainer combo in the field, and this looks a deliberate placement.
The Big Clubman is the class act on paper, and he’s priced like it. Irish form, an OR in the 130s, and he’s mixed it in graded novice hurdles. The worry is the set-up. He didn’t finish off his race over 2m7f on heavy last time, and while the drop back in trip helps, you still have to ask whether today is about sharpness as much as stamina. If this turns tactical, you want a horse who can quicken after the last — and that’s not always the Irish staying type.
The rest
The others look like they’re playing for places unless the front two underperform.
Buddy Holly has shown he can hit the frame in a Newbury novice, but he also showed how quickly it can unravel when he blunders. He’s capable, but not bombproof.
Laurier Des Obeaux is honest and stays, but the runs suggest he’s a rung below at this level.
Big Bert, Mulinas, and Agent Argylle all need a step up that isn’t obvious from recent evidence.
The bet
If you’re trying to find the most likely winner, don’t overthink it.
Talk To The Man is the one with the clearest upward curve and the most reliable recent performance.
The Big Clubman is the danger on class, but you’re paying full price for it.
Selection: TALK TO THE MAN (most likely winner)
Danger: The Big Clubman (if he’s sharper back in trip)
