5.13 Wolverhampton – Read Meg Nicholls Blog At betmgm.co.uk Handicap (1m½f, Class 6)🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a proper Wolverhampton 1m½f handicap: tight turns, little time to organise, and any horse forced to race wide is donating lengths. With inside stall positioning flagged and plenty of evidence that getting a position early matters, the draw and the first 3 furlongs are half the battle.
How the race sets up
Over this trip you want to be handy with cover, not lit up in front and not buried last needing luck. Low draws give you the chance to hold the rail, save ground and kick turning in. High draws can win, but they usually need either a soft lead across or a perfect tow into the race.
The key runners
Book Of Life (stall 4) is the one I want. The draw is ideal, he sits near the top of the TimeWise ratings, and he’s the type who can travel in midfield, creep closer without doing too much, then actually finish. The 5lb claim is a positive in a 0–60 where races are often decided by a head.
Amarachi (stall 1) is the obvious danger. That’s the best box in the race and she arrives off a strong second at Chelmsford where she finished her race properly. If she holds a position and doesn’t get shuffled, she’s almost guaranteed a cheap trip. The only niggle is she can look like a filly who hits the line without always going past, but the setup gives her every chance.
Pessoa (stall 3) is the Wolverhampton angle. He’s a course-and-distance performer, drawn perfectly again, and he’s more reliable than most at this level in terms of turning up and running to a mark. If the principals don’t get things their own way, he’s the one who can pick up the pieces.
Ardaddy (stall 8) is favourite and it’s easy to see why: top of the HRB/TimeWise numbers and consistently involved. The issue is the draw. From 8 he either has to work early or take his medicine and rely on gaps later. He can still win on form, but he’s a less clean bet than the low-drawn runners.
Further back, Rainwater (stall 7) is solid enough but looks more like a place player unless the race falls apart in front. The rest either need everything to drop perfectly or have too much to prove.
Verdict
This looks set up for something low drawn with a straightforward trip.
Selection: Book Of Life
Main danger: Amarachi
Each-way value/places: Pessoa
If you’re backing the favourite, accept the draw risk: Ardaddy
