Kelso 2.55 – Morebattle Hurdle (2m, Class 2)🏇⤵️👇

·

Seventeen runners, proper prize-money, and the usual Kelso cavalry charge over two miles. This is rarely about reputation. It’s about who travels, who handles the ground, and who can deliver when it lifts from two out.
The defending narrative
Cracking Rhapsody has won this race twice and clearly loves Kelso. The course figures are strong and he’s proven in big-field handicaps. The issue is price versus profile. He’s high in the weights again and his recent runs suggest he’s not arriving in the same shape as for those previous wins. At 5/1 you’re paying for history, not current momentum.
The progressive angle
Hot Fuss brings the best recent handicap win into the race. His Windsor success in a valuable Class 2 on soft ground was achieved the hard way and backed up strong ratings. He’s only five, still improving, and his mark looks workable rather than exposed. He travels well enough to hold a position and has shown he can battle when it matters. In this field, that combination is gold.
The lightly raced threat
Hamlets Night is talented and unexposed. He’s been competitive in better company and is clearly on an upward curve. The question is whether a big-field, strongly-run handicap on Good to Soft suits as well as smaller tactical races on better ground. If he handles the surface and the hustle, he’s a major player, but he is not bombproof.
The upside play
Captain Hugo remains open to improvement and was still involved when falling last time. His profile suggests there’s more to come, but he’s stepping from smaller novice events into a full-field handicap. That’s a different test entirely.
Solid but limited
Spectacularsunrise is reliable and handles the track. He travels strongly and should give his running. The concern is whether he has the finishing kick to settle this against stronger handicappers off similar marks.
Verdict
This looks set up for a progressive horse rather than a past winner trying to repeat the trick under a big weight.
Hot Fuss has the right recent form, the right age profile, and a mark that still gives him room to improve. In a race where many have questions, he has the fewest.
Selection: Hot Fuss
Main danger: Hamlets Night
Respect: Cracking Rhapsody but at the right price only
