4.00 Ffos Las – 3As Horsebox Hire & Sales Handicap Hurdle (2m4½f, Heavy)🏇⤵️👇

·

Six runners on heavy at Ffos Las is never a beauty contest. It’s a survival test. This track can ride like glue when it’s deep, and over 2m4½f you don’t win here by looking classy for a mile and a half — you win by staying, jumping and coping when everyone else has had enough.
The pace angle
Small fields can turn tactical, but heavy ground usually sorts that out. If they dawdle early, it turns into a sprint from three out — and that’s where reliable jumping and proven stamina matter most. If they go a sensible gallop, it becomes a grind and you need a horse who’s already shown he can get to the line in this exact kind of race.
The key contenders
Getaway With You (9/4) sets the standard on recent form. He’s in decent nick and looks one of the more solid, professional types in here. The issue is the price versus the question. He hasn’t actually won on heavy, and he’s carrying 12st round a track that punishes anything that can’t travel through the mud. He can absolutely run his race — but at 9/4 you want fewer doubts.
Ionity (FR) (9/4) is the “could still be improving” one. Lightly raced, consistent, and from a stable that does well with these staying handicappers. He’s shown he can mix it in this grade, and the 9/4 tells you the market expects him to be right there again. The only snag is we’re still guessing a bit about how much he enjoys it when the ground is properly attritional. If he handles it, he’s a serious player.
The one with the strongest ‘Ffos Las heavy’ credentials
Moorland Rambler (7/2) is the angle horse and the most interesting price on the page. He won this exact race last year — same track, same trip, same heavy ground — and that matters more than people like to admit. Some horses just operate here when it’s a slog. He’s off a slightly higher mark now, but it’s not outrageous, and in a six-runner Class 5 you don’t need to be thrown in, you just need to be the one who keeps galloping.
Crucially, he’s not arriving as a complete rag either. His recent efforts suggest he’s still capable of being competitive without everything falling perfectly. And in these conditions, the “I’ll handle it” horses are worth their weight in gold.
The rest
Bolsover Bill (9/2) is interesting because he’s got ability, but a lot of it has historically been in chases rather than hurdles. He can travel, but you want to see him finish in this sort of race, and recent evidence leaves room for doubt.
Onehundredneighty (5/1) is the lightweight and has hinted at improvement, but this is a different exam: Ffos Las heavy can make an unexposed horse look like he’s running in slow motion when the race gets serious.
Wild Nephin (12/1) has a lot to prove, and the layoff doesn’t scream “ready for a mud-bath”.
Verdict
This looks like it revolves around the two at the head of the market — Getaway With You and Ionity — but the value and the strongest course-and-ground logic sits with Moorland Rambler. In a race like this, I’ll back the one who’s already shown he can win the exact fight being asked of him today.
Selection: Moorland Rambler
Heavy ground, proven at Ffos Las, proven at the trip, and priced like he’s got no chance. That’s the wrong way round.
