4.00 Lingfield – Handicap (1m2f)🏇⤵️👇

·

This looks a straightforward 0–60 three-year-old handicap where most of the field are already fairly exposed at this level. In races like this the focus should usually be on the runner with the most scope to improve, rather than the one repeatedly hitting the frame.
Montu sets the standard
Montu makes the most appeal. He showed clear progress when finishing second at Wolverhampton ten days ago and shaped as though a slightly longer trip would suit. This step up to 1m2f looks sensible and he remains lightly raced compared to most of his rivals.
In races of this nature, improving three-year-olds often take advantage of exposed opposition and Montu fits that profile best.
The consistent rival
Chilliconcarneigh heads the HRB ratings and brings the most consistent recent form, having finished third in his last four runs. However, that sequence also suggests he may lack the finishing kick required to get his head in front. The step up in trip could help but he has had plenty of chances already.
Others with place claims
Bergamo Gold ran respectably when second at Chelmsford last time but hasn’t yet shown that she will improve significantly for this longer trip.
Akrivos is another who generally runs to a similar level. He is reliable enough but looks vulnerable to anything still progressing.
Sunday Sinatra may get an easy lead if the pace develops as expected, but his overall form leaves him with something to find.
Verdict
Most of the field look exposed at this level, which puts the focus firmly on the one horse with the potential to improve.
Montu arrives here on the back of a solid run, the longer trip should suit, and he has the profile of a three-year-old ready to take advantage of a modest handicap.
Selection: Montu
