Kempton 7.00 – 6f Handicap (0–85) Preview🏇⤵️👇

·

A tight eight-runner Class 4 sprint where recent all-weather form should prove decisive. With several runners arriving in good order, the race looks competitive on paper, but the form lines suggest the winner is likely to come from a small core group.
Dyrholaey sets the standard on recent evidence. Archie Watson’s five-year-old has been in strong form on the all-weather, finishing second at Wolverhampton before getting back to winning ways at Chelmsford last month. The handicapper has reacted with only a 2 lb rise, leaving him still capable of running to a level good enough to win again. With a solid strike-rate on artificial surfaces and the ability to travel strongly off a sensible pace, he looks the most likely winner if reproducing that latest effort.
Buccabay rates the main threat. He has a proven record at Kempton, including a course-and-distance success in December, and again showed his effectiveness here when second in January after briefly hitting the front inside the final furlong. Drawn low and likely to secure a good early position, he should run his race once more and is unlikely to be far away.
Consistency is the calling card of Hundred Caps. Since undergoing a breathing operation he has produced a string of solid efforts, including a Southwell win and a close second at Newcastle. He rarely runs poorly and should be competitive again, though his recent profile suggests he may once more find one stronger at the finish.
City Cyclone arrives in form after back-to-back victories earlier this year, including a Kempton success, but those wins came in slightly weaker contests and he now returns to a deeper Class 4 handicap. He is respected but needs to show he can repeat that level under these conditions.
The remainder have questions to answer. Merrimack is capable of making the running but has struggled to finish strongly over this course and distance. Nemov, Marching Mac and Mr Lightside all have bits of ability but lack the recent form needed to make them convincing contenders.
Verdict
Dyrholaey looks the one in the best form and still fairly treated by the handicapper. Buccabay should give him most to think about, with Hundred Caps again likely to run well without necessarily landing the prize.
