7.30 Newcastle – 5f Handicap (Class 5)🏇⤵️👇

·

This 5f handicap on Newcastle’s straight Tapeta track looks competitive but the form and ratings narrow it down to a handful of runners with solid course credentials. A strong pace is expected and that often proves decisive over the minimum trip here.
Several of these are regulars at the track, so course form carries significant weight.
Harb
Harb looks interesting on the numbers. He arrives here after winning over course and distance two weeks ago and his last-run rating is the best in the field, which suggests that performance stacks up well against today’s opposition.
He is well suited by today’s conditions. The majority of his wins have come over 5f handicaps in Class 5 company, and his current mark sits right in the range where he has been most competitive. The 5lb claim from C. Horgan also helps offset the small rise for his recent success.
Lion’s House
Lion’s House remains a key contender after winning over this course and distance last month. He then finished third at Wolverhampton where he was denied a clear run at a crucial stage. That effort suggests he remains well treated and another strong run looks likely.
Castan
Castan brings a solid Newcastle profile with four wins over this course and distance. He has finished placed on his last three starts, including a close second here last time, and his consistency makes him a reliable contender again.
Digital
Digital has been one of the most consistent sprinters on the Newcastle Tapeta this winter. A three-time C&D winner this season, he was only beaten a head here last time and continues to run to a high level.
Verdict
This looks a typical tight Newcastle sprint but Harb makes plenty of appeal after his recent course-and-distance success and strong last-run figure. If he can repeat that effort from a workable mark, he should go very close.
Selection: Harb
Main dangers: Lion’s House, Castan and Digital.
