This is a typical 0–50 classified where exposed horses meet again and the one bringing the most reliable recent form usually comes out on top. There are no obvious improvers here, so the focus is firmly on runners already running well at this level.
Woodrafff looks the most solid option. Ruth Carr’s five-year-old has been knocking on the door in similar races, finishing runner-up twice during February before a respectable fourth at Southwell last time when sent off favourite. His overall ratings profile is the strongest in the field and he has shown enough consistency to suggest another big run is likely.
Esque Elegance is the obvious threat. She remains a maiden but has been running well since joining her current yard and finished runner-up over this course and distance a fortnight ago. She has now placed on her last three starts, so the form is there, although the lack of a win after several chances remains the concern.
Sir Maxi also has course form and shaped better last time when third over this C&D after dropping back to a more suitable trip. If repeating that effort he should be competitive again.
One runner who could outrun his odds is Wheres The Crumpet. The six-year-old does his best work over a mile and has already won twice at Newcastle. He returned with a solid third at Southwell earlier in the year and remains well suited by these conditions.
The remainder of the field are harder to support with confidence. Starshot and Lady Delila often run respectable races without winning, while Martin’s Brig, Top Gun Tina and Fuel The Fire arrive with little recent form to recommend them.
In races like this, reliability usually wins out. Woodrafff has been running consistently in this grade and looks the one most likely to take advantage, with Esque Elegance and Sir Maxi the main dangers, while Wheres The Crumpet could sneak into the frame if things fall right.
