5.12 Hereford – Mares’ Open Maiden NH Flat Race (2m1f)🏇⤵️👇

·

A 14-runner mares’ bumper at Hereford where the majority are either inexperienced or simply not good enough on what they have shown so far. In races like this, proven bumper form normally counts for plenty and that immediately brings One Dimensional to the top of the shortlist.
She made a big impression on debut when finishing fifth in a Listed bumper at Huntingdon at huge odds. That form alone sets a fair standard for a race of this nature. She confirmed it was no fluke when finishing second at Ascot last time, travelling strongly and finishing her race well despite the steady early pace. With Timeform expecting a stronger gallop here, the race should play even more to her strengths.
The main threat looks to be Seven Stars, who has run solid races to finish third on both starts. Her Ludlow effort after a breathing operation suggested she retains ability and she is entitled to be competitive again. The concern is that she had a fairly favourable run that day and may struggle if the pace becomes more demanding late on.
Eskylady brings a touch of potential. A costly purchase after an Irish point win, she shaped well when second on her bumper debut at Sedgefield but the race was slowly run and she was outpaced late. She should improve, but whether she has the speed to win a race like this remains open to question.
Of the newcomers, Div Ine Glance represents a yard that does well in bumpers and is bred to stay well. Market support would be significant, but on pedigree she may be one for further down the line.
The rest of the field have either shown very little or need significant improvement to get involved.
Verdict
This looks a straightforward race to read. One Dimensional already has the best piece of form in the field and the expected stronger pace should suit her perfectly. If she reproduces her Ascot effort, she should prove difficult to beat.
Selection: One Dimensional
Main danger: Seven Stars
Next best: Eskylady
