Warwick 2.10 – Oddschecker Free Bets Novices’ Hurdle (2m)🏇⤵️👇

·

This looks a fairly typical Warwick novice hurdle where improvement is likely to decide the outcome. With no obvious pace bias expected and the ground good with a little ease, the focus should be on horses with the strongest recent progression rather than exposed types.
The one that stands out on both the HRB ratings and overall profile is Wilstar. Olly Murphy’s six-year-old posted the top HRB rating in the field (379) and confirmed earlier promise when winning a Southwell maiden hurdle last time. He travelled strongly throughout that race and pulled clear with a bit in hand, suggesting there is more to come. Murphy’s novice hurdlers tend to improve with racing and the booking of Sean Bowen is another positive. With just three hurdle starts under his belt, Wilstar still has the scope to step forward again.
The main threat appears to be Talakan, a four-year-old who brings solid juvenile form into the race. He finished a close second at Ludlow last time and that performance showed plenty of determination. His flat background in France also suggests he has a decent level of ability. However, taking on older horses in novice company is never straightforward and the market may slightly overestimate his current level.
Great Fleet is harder to weigh up. Dan Skelton has an excellent record at Warwick and the yard has won this race multiple times in recent years. The horse himself won a Kelso maiden convincingly earlier in the season but was pulled up on his handicap debut at Windsor last time. If that run is forgiven he has the ability to get involved, though his profile is not as solid as the main selection.
Of the remainder, Legal Weapon has bits of form that give him place claims but he has had a few opportunities already and may lack the improvement needed to win a race like this.
Overall this looks like a race where progression should prove decisive, and Wilstar fits that description best. His latest win suggested he is still improving and his HRB figure backs up the visual impression. If taking another step forward he sets the standard and looks the one most likely to land this novice hurdle.
Selection: WILSTAR
Main danger: Talakan
Next best: Great Fleet
