2.00 Plumpton – Catchintsavo sets the standard🏇⤵️👇

·

This does not look a deep novice hurdle and there is no need to overcomplicate it. Catchintsavo is the one with the strongest form, the right profile and the best chance of winning.
Anthony Honeyball’s six-year-old has already shown more than enough to take a race like this. He won a Ludlow maiden over a similar sort of trip on soft ground in January, then ran with credit under a penalty at Ascot last time. That was a better race than this and he was far from disgraced in finishing third. Back into calmer waters, he sets the bar.
The pace angle matters as well. Timeform expects this to be a slowly-run affair, and that should suit a horse like Catchintsavo who can race handily and hold a good position. In a small-field novice at Plumpton, tactical speed and track position can count for plenty.
The main threat could be Five Bar Gate. He won a bumper at Plumpton, so the track is clearly no issue, and he shaped as though this step up in trip would suit when second at Taunton last time. The first-time tongue-tie may also sharpen him up. He is the one with the most scope to improve.
Piping Rock is solid and has been placed on all three hurdle starts, but there is a slight suspicion that he may lack the finishing kick needed to get his head in front. He should run his race, but he does not look the percentage call to beat a horse with stronger form in the book.
The rest look up against it. Mymilkman has shown very little so far, while Snowski and Unknown Stranger are hard to fancy on debut under Rules unless the market says otherwise.
Recent winners of this race have tended to be the sort you would expect: relatively unexposed novices with solid form, usually near the head of the betting. That points firmly towards Catchintsavo.
There are no guarantees in this game, but this looks straightforward enough. Catchintsavo is the winner on form, on race setup and on overall substance. Five Bar Gate is the danger, with Piping Rock likely to be thereabouts again without necessarily finding enough.
Verdict
Catchintsavo to win.
Five Bar Gate the main danger.
Piping Rock best of the rest.
