14:54 Limerick – AOS Security Novice Handicap Chase (2m1f185y)🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a small-field novice handicap chase run on soft to heavy ground, and races at Limerick in these conditions are often about stamina and finishing effort rather than speed. The pace forecast suggests a steady gallop, which could turn this into a tactical affair.
Pace Angle
HRB’s race-shape data indicates Doyen Magic is the most likely front runner, but the projected early pace is weak. That means the race could bunch up and become a late stamina test turning for home. In these situations, horses that finish strongly off the pace tend to hold a clear advantage.
Two runners stand out in that regard: River Vale and Peaceinthevalley.
River Vale – The One to Beat
River Vale looks the most solid option in the race. He arrives here after throwing away a winning opportunity at Thurles, falling at the last when the race looked at his mercy. The handicapper has nudged him up only 4lb, which still leaves him competitively treated.
Prior to that mishap he had shown good form, including a convincing hurdles win at Naas in December, proving he handles testing ground well. HRB’s race-shape analysis also flags him as a strong late finisher, which fits perfectly with the likely tactical nature of this race.
If he travels into the contest as smoothly as he did last time, he should be finishing stronger than most of these.
Main Dangers
Doyen Magic is respected. He sits top on the HRB ratings and could get the run of the race if allowed to dictate. However, his form suggests he doesn’t always finish his races strongly, which is a concern in heavy ground.
James The Brave is another with claims. He has been in good form over hurdles and previously won a handicap chase earlier in the season. That said, his best chase form has come over longer distances, so this shorter trip could leave him vulnerable late on.
Peaceinthevalley represents the Henry de Bromhead yard, which has a very strong record in this race with three wins from the last four runnings. The concern is that this will be his first start over fences, and novice chasers on heavy ground always carry an element of risk.
Verdict
This race lacks depth and could easily become tactical, but River Vale has the strongest recent piece of form and the right running style for how the race is likely to unfold.
If he avoids the mistakes that cost him last time, he should take plenty of beating.
Selection: River Vale
Is the selection bombproof?
So so.
