4.25 Wolverhampton – Brasil Power the Solid Option in Tactical Staying Handicap🏇⤵️👇

·

This five–runner Class 3 handicap over 1m6f looks a tactical affair rather than a true stamina test. The pace forecast is extremely weak, with no obvious front-runner in the field, and races like this at Wolverhampton often turn into a steadily run contest decided by positioning and a turn of foot in the straight.
That scenario immediately puts the emphasis on horses who can travel comfortably and quicken late rather than those who need a strong gallop.
Brasil Power makes the most appeal. George Boughey’s seven-year-old enjoyed an excellent spell on the all-weather last year, winning three of his last four starts in 2025, including over course and distance. His recent fourth at Lingfield is better than it looks on paper. That race developed into a slowly run affair where he wasn’t ideally positioned, yet he still finished close enough to suggest he remains in good order.
Importantly, his profile suggests he is well suited to the likely race shape here. He has repeatedly shown the ability to finish strongly off a steady pace, which is often a decisive asset in small-field Wolverhampton handicaps. With Billy Loughnane in the saddle and a draw that should allow him to secure a good stalking position, he looks the most reliable option.
Sheradann finished ahead of the selection at Lingfield last time and commands respect. Both of his British wins have come on the all-weather at staying trips and the addition of a first-time hood could sharpen him up. However, he benefitted from the run of the race that day and may not get the same tactical advantage here.
Charlie’s Choice is another who arrives in good form, having won twice at Lingfield before running a respectable third at Southwell earlier in the week. The quick turnaround and the step up to this stronger grade are the main concerns, though the low weight keeps him in the conversation.
Sax Appeal is capable on his day and won plenty of races last year, but he needs to bounce back from a below-par effort at Newcastle, while Charging Thunder may find the likely steady tempo against him despite having a solid course record.
In a race where tactics could easily decide matters, Brasil Power looks the safest option. His consistency on the all-weather, proven course form and ability to quicken in steadily run races make him the one to beat.
