6.50 Southwell – Lord Harcourt Could Capitalise On possible Strong Pace🏇⤵️👇

·

This Class 2 three-year-old handicap over 6f looks competitive on paper, but the likely race shape could prove decisive.
There isn’t a dominant front-runner. Grey Horizon is the most likely to go forward, but several others — Ghost Mode, Jungle Ruler and Saffron Dandy — usually sit prominently. That should ensure a strong early tempo, which often sets things up for a horse finishing late on Southwell’s Tapeta.
That scenario immediately brings Lord Harcourt into the picture.
Ed Walker’s gelding improved sharply after a gelding operation in December, winning twice at Lingfield. His latest run there a fortnight ago reads better than the bare result. He finished fifth behind Saffron Dandy and Grey Horizon, but the race was run in a way that didn’t suit hold-up horses and he was forced to make his move from further back than ideal.
With more pace likely here, the race should play much more to his strengths. His profile shows a horse that finishes strongly when the leaders overdo it, and from a mark of 81 he still looks fairly treated if getting the right setup.
Jungle Ruler is the obvious danger. He won over this course and distance in January and remains lightly raced. His Lingfield run over 7f next time wasn’t a backward step and dropping back to 6f should suit.
Ghost Mode is respected on handicap debut for Andrew Balding after some strong two-year-old form, but he returns from a five-month break and drops in trip, which adds a layer of uncertainty in a sharp sprint handicap.
Saffron Dandy arrives in form after two all-weather handicap wins, though both came in races where he was able to race prominently without much pressure. This race looks tougher tactically.
The pace angle and recent form point towards one horse who should get the race run to suit.
Lord Harcourt looks the one most likely to be finishing strongest when it matters.
Selection: Lord Harcourt
Bombproof rating: Medium – solid pace setup in his favour, but several progressive three-year-olds keep this competitive.
