Uttoxeter 3:35 – JenningsBet Novices’ Handicap Chase (3m½f, Soft)🏇⤵️👇

·

A small but intriguing field lines up for this staying novice handicap chase at Uttoxeter, and the race looks likely to be run at a steady early tempo. That could prove an important factor because several in this field rely on a proper test of stamina, while others will be suited by a more controlled pace.
On recent form and overall profile, Milcree looks the most solid option.
The Nicky Richards-trained eight-year-old has returned from a long absence looking a much improved performer over fences. His chase debut win at Ayr suggested ability, but his follow-up success at Kelso confirmed it. On heavy ground he travelled well, jumped accurately and showed real determination to see the race out. Those two runs indicate a horse who is still progressing and whose stamina is a major asset.
The step up in trip to just over three miles should suit. His finishing effort in both chase starts hinted that further would bring improvement, and Uttoxeter’s demanding finish will play to those strengths. With a likely steady pace, he should be able to sit handy and use his stamina late on.
The obvious danger is As The Fella Says from the Nicky Henderson yard. He finally got off the mark over fences at Newbury last time, staying on strongly over nearly three miles. That performance suggested he is learning quickly as a chaser and there could still be improvement to come. However, the market has reacted and he may not have much margin at the current price.
Golden Point is another to respect. She has taken well to chasing and produced two solid wins at Kelso earlier in the season, including a front-running display over further than this. If allowed an uncontested lead she could prove difficult to reel in, although this represents a stronger race than those victories.
Kykorock is interesting for the Skelton team. He has won two novice chases this season but both came over trips around two miles, and this represents a significant stamina test. The first-time tongue tie may help, but he still has something to prove over this distance.
Of the remainder, Saint Davy is reliable but has struggled to win over fences despite several opportunities, while Elysian Knight and Mombasa look to have a bit to find on the balance of form.
Everything considered, Milcree arrives with the most convincing profile. He is improving, stays well, and the likely race setup should allow him to use those strengths at the right time.
Selection: Milcree
Bombproof rating: Medium.
