three-year-old handicap over 1m½f on the Tapeta, but it still looks a race with a fairly clear shape and a couple of improving types standing out.
The likely pace angle is straightforward. Laser Luck looks the most obvious candidate to go forward and could get a relatively uncontested lead if ridden positively. Several others prefer to sit just behind the pace, while a handful of runners — most notably Crimson Rambler and Karakula Dancer — tend to be ridden more patiently and finish their races off.
On Wolverhampton’s tight track that dynamic matters. If the leader is allowed too much rope the race could turn tactical, but if the tempo lifts turning for home the stronger finishers should come into play.
Crimson Rambler brings the standout recent form. He arrives on a hat-trick after two handicap wins, including one over this course and distance, and his recent Racing Post Ratings show steady progression. He settles well, travels smoothly and finishes strongly, which is often a very effective profile around Wolverhampton. From stall eight he may need a little luck getting into position early, but if he sees daylight in the straight he sets the standard.
Karakula Dancer looks the most credible danger. He has been consistent in similar races and shapes as though this trip suits him well. His style of racing — usually tracking the pace before finishing off — should keep him out of trouble, and with further improvement possible he looks the one most likely to make the favourite work.
Crown The Future has already won at the track and could get a good early position despite the wider draw. The concern is his tendency to weaken late in his races, which may leave him vulnerable once the closers begin to challenge.
Chilliconcarneigh is the interesting outsider. Drawn in stall one and usually finishing his races strongly, he could easily pick up some pieces late if the race is run at an honest tempo. He has been knocking around this level without quite getting his head in front but is capable of hitting the frame.
Of the remainder, Sorted is lightly raced and still has a bit of scope for improvement, while the rest of the field look either inconsistent or in need of a significant step forward.
Overall this looks like a race that could revolve around the two progressive runners. Crimson Rambler has the strongest recent form and proven course credentials, while Karakula Dancer has the consistency and profile to give him most to think about.
In short: the favourite sets the standard, the Ferguson runner is the main threat, and Chilliconcarneigh could be the one to run on late at bigger odds.
