1.37 Wexford – Park Run Mares Maiden Hurdle (2m, Soft)🏇⤵️👇

·

This doesn’t look a deep mares’ maiden and the HRB ratings narrow the race quickly to three main contenders: Brosna Queen (260), Shadys Lady (258) and Catchabird (252). The rest of the field sit a long way behind on the numbers and would need major improvement.
The likely pace angle centres on Shadys Lady, who profiles as the sole front runner. If she gets an uncontested lead she could control the race, and in this grade that can often be enough. She also brings the strongest official form into the race with an OR of 106, which sets the standard.
However, the comment data raises a small concern. Shadys Lady has shown a tendency to travel well before weakening late, and on soft ground over two miles at Wexford, races can become testing in the closing stages.
That scenario brings the closers firmly into play.
Catchabird arrives here in consistent form, with recent figures of 4852334, repeatedly running well in similar company. The Comment Shaper flags her as a strong late finisher, and her usual prominent run style should keep her close enough to strike when the race begins to develop after the second last.
Brosna Queen, the top rated horse on HRB, is another noted strong finisher. She tends to be ridden patiently, which could suit if the pace lifts, but that running style always carries the risk of giving the leaders too much rope in a small field.
The remainder look up against it on both ratings and recent evidence.
Overall the race shape suggests Shadys Lady may get an easy lead, but if the early pace is even slightly stronger than expected, the race could set up for something finishing late.
Catchabird looks the runner most likely to take advantage. She is consistent, finishes strongly, and should be positioned close enough to strike when the leader begins to feel the pressure.
Selection: Catchabird
Confidence: Medium
