3.30 Exeter – Oddschecker Handicap Chase (2m3½f)🏇⤵️👇

·

A small five-runner field lines up for this Class 4 handicap chase and the race looks more tactical than competitive. The Comment Shaper data highlights a key factor straight away – there is no obvious front runner. With little confirmed early pace, this is unlikely to turn into a strongly run contest and could easily develop into a steadily run race where positioning and finishing speed matter most.
From a ratings perspective Bonza Boy stands out clearly. His HRB rating of 311.7 is comfortably the best in the field, putting him well ahead of Sherborne and Saint Cyr De Pail. He also comes into the race in solid recent form, finishing second last time and maintaining a consistent profile in this grade.
The Comment Shaper data strengthens the case. Bonza Boy is flagged as a strong late finisher, and importantly his running style is stable and predictable, usually sitting prominently before finishing strongly. In a race where there is no guaranteed pace, that ability to travel comfortably and produce a late effort could prove decisive.
First Angel is an obvious danger on historical form but returns from a 423-day absence, which is a major concern in a chasing contest. Even if the ability remains, fitness and sharpness after such a long break are hard to trust.
Saint Cyr De Pail has ability but remains inconsistent and arrives after an unseat, while Sherborne looks more like a perennial placer than a winner. Captain Boudet has shown a tendency to weaken late, which is not the profile you want in a race likely decided in the closing stages.
Overall the race lacks depth and the ratings point strongly in one direction. If the race unfolds as expected, Bonza Boy’s finishing strength should see him take control late on.
Selection: Bonza Boy
