This late-season bumper at Wetherby looks fairly straightforward on the numbers, with Minella Premier standing out clearly on the HRB ratings.
Richard Hobson’s six-year-old is already a winner and his HRB total of 355 puts him well clear of the field. The next best, Peace Belle, sits on 292, while the rest are another step behind. In a race where many are inexperienced or making their debut, proven ability counts for plenty.
Looking at the Comment Shaper data, there is no obvious front runner in the race and only moderate early pressure expected. That suggests a steadily run contest where positioning and finishing speed will matter more than raw pace.
That scenario suits Minella Premier perfectly. His run comments show a horse that often finishes strongly and keeps finding late on, which is exactly the profile you want if the race turns tactical.
Peace Belle is the most obvious danger. She has been consistent and also tends to stay on at the finish, but the ratings say she still needs to improve to match the favourite.
Static Charm and Superior Queen both bring respectable form, but their figures fall short and they look more like place contenders unless the favourite underperforms.
There are also a couple of unknowns from the Olly Murphy yard, but with no race evidence yet they are difficult to put ahead of a horse that has already delivered on the track.
All things considered, this race revolves around Minella Premier. He has the best numbers, the right finishing profile for the likely race shape, and the benefit of proven form in a weak looking bumper.
