6.15 Dundalk – 7f Handicap (0–60) Preview🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a typical Dundalk handicap on paper, but the shape of the race tells a much clearer story than the bare form.
There’s enough early pace on to ensure this is run at a proper clip, and the data points strongly towards a high-pressure, likely collapse scenario. That immediately shifts the focus away from anything wanting to force it and towards runners who can sit off the speed and finish strongly.
In races like this, getting the run style right is half the battle.
Alex Belardo looks the most straightforward starting point. He’s been running consistently well in similar company, repeatedly finishing his races strongly, and this setup plays directly to that strength. He doesn’t need to improve much to win a race of this nature, and crucially, he’s one of the few you can rely on to run his race. In a weak grade where many are unreliable, that counts for plenty.
Wellwhatshappenin is the obvious danger. He’s less exposed than most of these and already has a course-and-distance win to his name. His recent form figures suggest he’s still progressing, but the slight concern is tactical—he can race a bit closer to the pace than ideal in what looks like a strongly run race. If he settles and is delivered late, he’s a major player.
The more interesting angle might be Desert Of The Sea. He’s been shaping as though ready to strike, is very well treated on ratings, and now gets first-time headgear. That combination often signals intent. From a wide draw he’s unlikely to get involved early, which may actually work in his favour given how this race is likely to unfold.
For those looking beyond the obvious, Distillate makes each-way appeal. A previous course-and-distance winner, she has the right run style for this and is one of the stronger late finishers in the field. In a race where plenty will come back to the field late on, she’s the type to pick off beaten rivals.
There are plenty you can safely oppose. Several of these either rely on getting an easy lead—which looks unlikely—or simply don’t finish their races strongly enough to take advantage when things fall apart late.
In summary, this looks like a race where patience will be rewarded. Expect the leaders to go too hard, the field to compress turning in, and the winner to come from off the pace.
Verdict:
Alex Belardo is the solid option in a race that should suit him perfectly, with Desert Of The Sea and Distillate the ones to chase him home if the pace unfolds as expected.
