This is a typical Dundalk sprint where the margins are tight and the setup matters more than raw ability. With two front runners in the field and a solid pace forecast, the race is unlikely to be won on the front end. The shape points firmly towards something sitting just off the speed or coming late.
The draw plays its usual role over this straight 5f. Low numbers hold a consistent edge, especially when paired with a runner that can settle and deliver late. In a race where early pressure looks assured, that combination becomes even more potent.
This Guy stands out on balance. He’s been running consistently well without getting his head in front and this looks a very workable opportunity. The draw in stall 3 is ideal, his running style fits the likely pace scenario, and his profile suggests he’s still progressing. He doesn’t need to improve much to win this.
Bold Optimist is a major player. He finished close to Arctic Steps last time and now meets that rival on better terms. He’s another who will be finishing late, and while the draw isn’t perfect, the race setup gives him every chance to get involved if the gaps come at the right time.
Only Spoofing is the interesting one. Despite his age, he retains plenty of ability and remains a strong closer. In a race where the leaders could go too hard, he’s exactly the type to capitalise. The concern, as always, is traffic — he’ll need luck.
Arctic Steps is solid and arrives in form, but tactically this is tougher. Likely to be involved early in a race where that might not be the place to be. She could easily travel into it and then get picked off late.
Of the rest, Jampa Ling has upside as an unexposed three-year-old, but the wide draw complicates things. Hasiyna is well drawn and capable of finishing late, making her a fair each-way shout at bigger prices.
Overall, this looks set up for a closer, ideally drawn low, and one who can navigate traffic late.
Verdict:
This Guy is the most solid option in a race that should suit his style perfectly. Bold Optimist rates the main danger, while Only Spoofing is the one to keep on side at a price if the race collapses late.
