2.40 Kelso – Pace Makes the Race🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a race where the shape is everything, and the data couldn’t be clearer. A Very Strong Shape with a high collapse risk points firmly towards one outcome — those on or near the lead are vulnerable, and this is set up for a closer.
Two habitual front runners, led by Diamond Dealer, are likely to force things early. The problem? He doesn’t finish his races. The Comment Shaper flags it repeatedly — he weakens, and often badly. In a race where early pressure is expected, that’s a glaring weakness, not a minor flaw. At around 3/1, he looks opposable.
Behind the pace, there’s a cluster of prominent racers — Bridge Court and Moon Phases included. Bridge Court brings the strongest HRB figure and arrives in form, but his run style is a concern. He’s likely to be in the firing line too early, and in a race that could fall apart late, that’s not where you want to be. Moon Phases is slightly more appealing, as he does finish his races better, but he still risks being caught in the same tactical trap.
The focus should be on those delivered late.
Glen Road fits the bill on paper — a strong finisher with the ability to sit closer if needed. However, his profile is patchy, and he doesn’t always back up the promise. He’s a player, but not bombproof.
The one that makes the most sense is Defence Witness. He’s a natural hold-up performer, consistent in how he’s ridden, and repeatedly finishes his races strongly. In a contest where the pace looks set to collapse, that profile is exactly what you want. Add in a light weight and a race likely to be run to suit, and everything lines up.
This won’t be won from the front. It’s far more likely to be a race where they come back to the field late on.
Verdict: Defence Witness is the percentage call in a race set up for a closer.
Confidence: Medium
