4.17 Navan – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Handicap Chase Final (Listed)🏇⤵️👇

·

2m7½f | Soft to Heavy | 12 Runners
This is a proper staying test at Navan and the race shape data leaves little room for doubt—this will be run at a strong gallop. A single, weak front-runner is identified, with solid pressure behind. That combination, especially over this trip in testing ground, usually leads to one thing: the race falling apart late.
That makes this far less about tactical speed and far more about stamina and finishing power.
Showurappreciation comes out on top and it’s not difficult to see why. He’s clear on HRB ratings, arrives in strong form, and—most importantly—has the profile of a horse who finishes his races off properly. His run style is adaptable, so he shouldn’t get caught out, and in a race likely to be set up for closers, he looks primed to strike late.
Nelson County is the main danger. A consistent hold-up performer with a strong finishing profile, he should be suited by how this unfolds. If the leaders come back sharply, he’ll be one of those staying on best up the straight. The question is whether he has quite enough in hand to win.
Koori Star also fits the mould as a strong finisher and should appreciate conditions, but lacks the same level of substance in his form. He looks more solid place material than a likely winner.
In contrast, Rokathir and Magic McColgan bring solid recent form but don’t look as convincing for this type of race. Both may travel into it, but this setup demands finding plenty late, and that’s not their strongest attribute.
The pace angle is decisive. A weak leader with sustained pressure behind almost always sets things up for horses coming from off the pace, and this race fits that pattern perfectly.
All roads lead to one conclusion.
Showurappreciation is the one to beat.
Verdict: Strong
