4.50 Wolverhampton – Fistral Beach sets the standard🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a poor enough Class 6 handicap, so there is no point dressing it up as anything else. In races like this, the safest route is usually to side with the horse that has the strongest overall profile rather than chase a fancy angle.
That brings us straight to Fistral Beach.
He is clear on the HRB ratings, and not by a little. His total of 135.6 puts him well ahead of the rest, with Sioux Warrior and Hannahs Return the next closest. In a race full of exposed types, that sort of gap matters.
The Comment Shaper also backs up the case. The race looks set to be run at only a fair tempo, with Faster Bee identified as the lone front runner. That is always worth noting at Wolverhampton, but the key point is that he is not flagged as a strong leader. He may get the lead, but he does not look certain to dominate from the front.
That should allow something more reliable to pick him off late, and Fistral Beach fits that role well. He is generally ridden in midfield, he stays on, and the data marks him down as a strong finisher. From stall 2, he should get a sensible position, track the pace, and have every chance when they turn in.
There are dangers, but all of them come with a catch.
Faster Bee is the obvious tactical threat because lone pace can be gold dust in this grade. If he gets across cheaply and settles, he could take pegging back. The problem is that his finishing profile is not convincing, and a weak front runner is often vulnerable close home.
Sioux Warrior is second-best on the ratings and has a proper late run in him, but he is not the most trustworthy. His profile is a bit mixed, and in these races that can be enough to put you off.
Hannahs Return has bits and pieces of form that make her interesting, especially as a course-and-distance winner from stall 1, but she lacks the same solidity as the selection.
Neptune Legend will be doing his best work late, but the likely pace does not look strong enough to play fully to his strengths.
Recent winners of this race have tended to be solid, exposed handicappers rated around the low 50s, and that fits the shape of Fistral Beach nicely. He is proven at the trip, proven at the track, and arrives with the best all-round case on paper.
There is no great mystery here. Fistral Beach is the percentage call, and in a race like this that is exactly where you want to be.
