8.00 Kempton – Straightforward on Paper🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a small-field Class 4 over two miles and, frankly, it doesn’t take much solving. The TimeWise ratings point firmly in one direction, and the race shape only strengthens that view.
There’s no obvious pace angle here. Comment Shaper flags a weak early setup with minimal pressure, which usually turns these races into a tactical affair. In that scenario, you want a horse that can travel comfortably and quicken off a steady gallop, not one that needs a strong pace to aim at.
That brings us straight to Knight Templar.
He’s the clear Rank 1 on HRB (365) and comes here off a big last-time-out figure (102) that nothing else in the field gets near. There’s a healthy gap back to the rest and, crucially, his profile fits the likely race setup. He’s shown he can sit handy or track the pace and finish off, which is exactly what’s needed in a race lacking tempo.
The only real alternative is Sword Of Wessex (Rank 2). He’s solid enough and should be competitive, but his recent figures are some way below the favourite and he looks more exposed. In a steadily run race, he may simply lack the change of gear to go past.
Naasma (Rank 3) will have her supporters, especially given she’s flagged as the strongest finisher in the field. The problem is obvious: with no pace, hold-up types are often left with too much ground to make up. She’ll be finishing late, but possibly when it’s already decided.
The other two look up against it on both ratings and recent performance.
This is one of those races where overthinking it is the danger. The top-rated horse has the best recent form, suits the pace setup, and has already proven himself under these conditions.
Verdict
Knight Templar is the one to beat and should take this if running to his mark.
Saver players can look to Sword Of Wessex, but the favourite sets a clear standard.
Strength: STRONG
