4.50 Chepstow – Handicap Hurdle Preview🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a poor Class 5 staying handicap, but it’s a race where the setup matters more than raw ability.
The Comment Shaper points to a strong pace. There’s only one confirmed front runner in Clondaw Royale and he’s not especially strong, while three prominent racers are likely to keep him honest. That should ensure a proper gallop. With six hold-up types in the field and a moderate collapse risk, this has the look of a race that will be won late rather than up front.
On ratings, Crystello is the clear standout. He tops the TimeWise figures by a fair margin and comes here off a win. The problem is tactical. He tends to sit handy, and in a race where the pace could become contested, that position may not be ideal. He’s the most likely winner on paper, but not perfectly suited to how this race is likely to unfold.
Jacks Jury, ranked second, makes far more appeal in context. He’s a proven strong finisher, arrives in form after a recent win, and has shown he can be ridden patiently. In a race where stamina and late energy should decide things, he looks set to get the run of the race. He doesn’t need to improve much on his current level to take this.
Of the rest, Bredon Hill Dart and Blue In The West both fit the strong-finisher mould and could pick up pieces, but they lack the ratings strength you typically need to win these. They look more like place contenders unless the race completely falls apart.
In races like this, the key is aligning ratings with race shape. Crystello has the numbers, but Jacks Jury has the setup in his favour.
Selection: Jacks Jury (IRE)
Confidence: Medium
