Yorkshire Glory sets the standard in Newcastle’s 6.00🏇⤵️👇

·

The 6.00 at Newcastle looks the sort of race where there is no need to get clever. The figures point firmly towards Yorkshire Glory, and the race shape does little to put him under pressure.
On the HRB TimeWise Master ratings he is a clear rank 1 on 371.5, well ahead of Water Of Leith on 297.5 and Pit Boss on 271.9. That matters. In these races the top two in the ratings produce the bulk of winners, and when there is a gap as wide as this at the top, it usually pays to stay on the obvious side.
Comment Shaper backs that up. There is no obvious front-runner in the field, only a few horses likely to race prominently, and the overall verdict is for a moderate shape with low collapse risk. In simple terms, this does not look a burn-up. It looks a race where track position will matter and where those dropped in behind may not get the strong pace they need.
That is a plus for Yorkshire Glory. He is predicted to race prominently, he is in excellent form, and he is a proven course-and-distance winner. In a straight six at Newcastle, a horse able to sit handy without having to force the pace can be very dangerous. He does not need the race to fall apart. He just needs to hold his pitch and run to his mark, which he has been doing repeatedly.
The obvious danger is Water Of Leith. He is the clear rank 2, another course-and-distance winner, and Comment Shaper marks him down as a strong late finisher. If the pace lifts more than expected, or if Yorkshire Glory gets softened up, he is the one most likely to come through late. The problem is that he usually races from mid-division, and this setup may not give him enough help.
Pit Boss is respected, but he is only rank 3 and that puts him in the caution zone. He is another strong finisher, but like Water Of Leith he may be relying on a stronger gallop than seems likely. He looks more likely to run on into the places than win.
Of the bigger prices, Fan Mail is the one with a small each-way squeak. He has a prominent profile and could get involved from the front end, but on balance he still falls short of the principals on the numbers.
So the race comes back to the same point. The top-rated horse is clear on figures, suited by the likely setup, and arrives in the best form. That is usually where the answer lies.
Verdict: Yorkshire Glory (IRE)
Main danger: Water Of Leith (IRE)
Confidence: Strong
