1.55 Curragh – 5f Handicap Preview🏇⤵️👇

·

This looks a proper Curragh sprint: big field, testing ground and no obvious front runner. The Comment Shaper flags strong early pressure without a clear leader, which usually means one thing over 5f here – they go hard anyway and set it up for something finishing late.
With an average finish score of 4.79 and multiple strong closers in the field, the race is unlikely to be won by anything doing too much too soon. Positioning just off the pace will be key.
The Ratings Angle
HRB TimeWise Master makes this fairly straightforward:
Dmaniac – clear Rank 1
Keke – clear Rank 2
Rest some way behind
Historically, that matters. The bulk of winners come from the top two, and this race doesn’t look an exception.
Dmaniac – The Likely Winner
Dmaniac ticks the right boxes for this setup.
He’s tactically versatile, usually sitting just behind the pace, which is ideal given there’s no confirmed front runner but plenty of pressure expected. He arrives in form after back-to-back wins and is proven at finishing his races off strongly.
Yes, he’s not bombproof – there are the odd messy traits in his run style – but in this type of race you want a horse that can travel, hold position and quicken late. He fits that mould better than anything else.
Keke – The Main Danger
Keke is the obvious threat.
A hold-up performer with a strong late kick, he looks tailor-made for a race that could collapse late. If they go too hard early, he’ll be the one staying on strongest in the final furlong.
The concern is the absence. Coming back after 182 days in a competitive sprint like this is far from ideal. He may need the run, and in these races you don’t get much forgiveness if you’re not fully tuned.
The Rest
There are plenty of strong finishers on paper – Gazelle Dor, Stag Night, Airspeed – but they all sit just below the top two on ratings and need things to fall perfectly.
Smoke Them Out is likely to be involved early but has a clear tendency to weaken late, which is a big negative given the expected race shape.
Verdict
This sets up for something sitting just off the pace and finishing well. Dmaniac is the standout on ratings, arrives in form and has the right tactical profile to take advantage.
Keke is feared most if fully fit, but that’s not guaranteed.
Selection: Dmaniac
Saver: Keke
Strength: Strong
