2.15 Stratford – Selling Hurdle Preview🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a poor Class 5 seller and it won’t take much winning. Races like this are usually decided by two things: who is still capable of running to their mark, and who gets the easiest run tactically.
The HRB TimeWise ratings point us firmly in the right direction. Hara Kiri (Rank 1) and Hecouldbetheone (Rank 2) dominate the figures, and historically that’s where the winner comes from the majority of the time. The rest have too much to prove.
However, this race is unlikely to be run at a strong gallop. Comment Shaper flags a single front runner with a low collapse risk, which is often decisive in a race of this nature. That front runner is Hecouldbetheone.
That gives him a major tactical advantage. He should be able to dictate the pace, stack them up, and kick when it suits. Around Stratford, that can be very hard to counter, especially with limited pressure from behind.
Hara Kiri is the obvious danger. He’s the top-rated horse and a strong finisher, but he is likely to be played late. In a race lacking pace, that style is a concern. He may simply be giving the leader too much rope.
Junker Dallier heads the market but sits only fourth on ratings and looks opposable. He’s inconsistent and doesn’t have the tactical setup in his favour. In this grade, you don’t want to be backing favourites with questions.
The rest look exposed and unreliable. They would likely need the race to fall apart, which the pace setup suggests is unlikely.
Verdict
This looks straightforward. Hecouldbetheone gets the run of the race, sits in the top two on ratings, and comes from a yard that won this race last year with a similar type. That combination is usually enough in a seller.
Hara Kiri is the saver if the pace collapses, but everything points towards the leader having things his own way.
Self Critique
The concern is that Hecouldbetheone doesn’t win often, and if anything takes him on early, his advantage disappears. That would bring Hara Kiri strongly into play.
But based on the likely shape, he should get control — and in this company, that often proves decisive.
Strength: Medium
