This looks a straightforward race once you strip it back to what actually matters: pace and the top of the ratings.
There’s no obvious front runner here. The Comment Shaper points to a steady to moderately run race, with a few sitting handy but nothing likely to force it. That usually turns this type of contest into a tactical affair, where positioning is key and hold-up horses are often left with too much to do.
With a low collapse risk, don’t expect this to fall apart late. You want a mare who can travel close to the pace and see it out, not one relying on a strong gallop to bring her into it.
The ratings back that up nicely.
Mermaids Cave sits top of the HRB TimeWise Master figures and, crucially, she’s a consistent prominent racer. She’s tactically versatile without being messy, and her profile of staying on and progressing fits this race far better than most. In a field lacking a true pace angle, she should get a clean, uncomplicated run near the front — and that’s a big edge.
Crazierthandaisy, second on the ratings, is the obvious danger. She’s a strong finisher and has the ability, but her run style leans more towards being held up. In a race that may not be strongly run, she could easily find herself playing catch-up from an unhelpful position. She’s respected, but conditions are not ideal.
The rest look up against it for different reasons.
Notnowlinda and Rialannah will be doing their best work late, but both are hostage to pace.
No No Fizz is unreliable off the bridle.
Blue Marvel, despite market support, is low on the ratings and lacks a solid tactical identity.
This is one of those races where the top-rated horse also has the best setup — and that’s usually the time to keep things simple.
