Ludlow 3.27 – Ben Chambers Memorial Handicap Hurdle🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a small-field Class 5, but it’s a good example of where race shape and ratings pull in slightly different directions.
The Shape of the Race
Comment Shaper flags a weak pace scenario with no confirmed front runner, but that doesn’t quite tell the full story. Timeform is much clearer — Jackomy is expected to get an uncontested lead.
That’s crucial.
In a race lacking early pressure and with a low collapse risk, those ridden prominently — or better still, on the lead — hold a significant tactical edge. Hold-up performers are unlikely to get the tempo they need.
The Ratings Picture
HRB TimeWise has:
Oakley’s Way – Rank 1
Little Pi – Rank 2
Jackomy – Rank 3
Ordinarily, you’d build the race around the top two. That’s where most winners come from, and ignoring that is usually a mistake. However, this looks one of those races where context matters more than raw ranking.
The Main Players
Jackomy comes here off a convincing win and is clearly improving. Timeform’s view that he can dominate matters — in this setup, that could be decisive. The concern is his tendency to weaken late, but in a steadily run race, that vulnerability may never be exposed.
Oakley’s Way is the solid, percentage call. Top-rated, consistent, and dropping in grade. He brings the most reliable profile and sets the standard on figures. If the favourite doesn’t get things his own way, he’s the one most likely to capitalise.
Little Pi is a strong finisher and arrives in form, but everything about the race shape works against him. Without pace, his late kick is blunted, and he may again find himself with too much to do.
The rest look outclassed or out of form.
Verdict
This comes down to a tactical call versus the ratings.
If Jackomy gets the uncontested lead Timeform predicts, he’ll take plenty of pegging back. In a race lacking pace, that’s often enough at this level. However, going against the top-rated Oakley’s Way always carries risk.
Selection: Jackomy (IRE)
Saver: Oakley’s Way
Confidence: Medium
