6.12 Limerick – Vision Contracting Handicap Chase🏇⤵️👇

This is a race where the numbers and the shape point you firmly in one direction, and it pays not to get clever.
The pace angle is straightforward. Shanroe Act is the only confirmed front runner, but he’s not a strong one and there’s very little pressure behind. That means a steady enough gallop is likely, with the field bunching and the race developing from the second last rather than turning into a slog. The collapse risk is low, so you don’t want to be relying on something coming from miles back.
That immediately puts a question mark over the typical hold-up finishers. Horses like Midnight Moonshine and Duffys Hodey have the late kick, but this setup doesn’t really play to it unless things unfold differently than expected.
So the focus goes straight to the top of the HRB ratings.
Sophia Rose sits clear as Rank 1, and that matters. Long-term, this is where the majority of winners come from, and there’s enough in her profile to justify it. Her chase form prior to the last run is solid and consistent, and the pull-up last time came in testing conditions with cheekpieces now discarded. That effort is easy enough to forgive.
More importantly, she fits the race tactically. She’s not a hostage to pace. She can track the leaders, travel comfortably and still finish her race off strongly. In a contest where positioning will be key turning in, that flexibility is a major asset.
Way Down South is the obvious alternative as Rank 2 and the one Timeform have latched onto. He got the job done last time despite a mistake and clearly has more to offer over fences. However, he’s typically ridden cold and his finishing effort isn’t always convincing. In a race that may not fall apart, that makes him vulnerable at the prices.
Shanroe Act will get an easy lead on paper, but being labelled a weak front runner is a concern. If he can’t control things properly or finds little off the bridle, he’s there to be picked off late.
The rest look either out of form, badly positioned tactically, or simply not good enough on the figures.
In a race lacking depth, this comes down to trusting the strongest combination of ratings, consistency and race position.
That points squarely at Sophia Rose.
Verdict: Sophia Rose (IRE)
Confidence: Medium
