This looks like a race where overthinking will cost you.
All roads lead to Cosmic Soul, and the data backs that up emphatically.
The HRB TimeWise ratings have him miles clear in Rank 1, and that matters — historically, this is exactly where most winners come from. The gap to the rest isn’t marginal, it’s decisive. When you combine that with recent form, it becomes even harder to oppose.
He’s already proven at the track, winning over C&D twice this month, and last time he brushed aside Laddie Cooper Mia by 7½ lengths. That wasn’t a scrap — it was controlled and authoritative. The 10lb rise is the obvious question, but the manner of that win suggests he’s still ahead of the handicapper.
From a race shape perspective, things should suit. There’s no strong pace angle despite one likely front runner, and the overall setup points towards a steadily run race where positioning is key. Cosmic Soul’s ability to sit prominent and finish strongly is a major asset here. Comment Shaper flags him as the clear standout late finisher, which is exactly what you want in a race that may turn tactical.
So what about the opposition?
Laddie Cooper Mia is the obvious one after finishing second last time, but she didn’t exactly advertise herself as unlucky — more that she didn’t find enough when it mattered. She’s well treated, but she also looks awkward under pressure and may not get the race run to suit if forcing it.
Top Flight Century, the Rank 2 horse, is the only one that fits the historical profile as a realistic alternative. However, he comes with risk after a poor run last time. If you’re playing a saver, it’s him by default rather than strong conviction.
The rest look exposed, inconsistent, or lacking the finishing strength needed to capitalise.
In truth, this is a race where the favourite is short for a reason. He’s top rated, in form, tactically suited, and already proven against these.
Verdict
Cosmic Soul is the one to beat and should take plenty of stopping.
