6.00 Kempton – Virgin Bet A Good Bet Handicap🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a typical low-grade Kempton handicap where tactics will matter more than raw ability.
The Comment Shaper data is decisive: no recognised front runner and very weak early pace. That usually turns these races into a sit-and-sprint, placing the emphasis on track position and turn of foot, not stamina. Horses buried out the back or those needing a strong gallop are immediately on the back foot.
From an HRB perspective, the focus is straightforward. The top-ranked pair dominate this race historically, and here that brings us to Penfolds Grange and Havana Touch, who sit joint top on the ratings.
Penfolds Grange brings the strongest piece of recent form, having been caught right on the line over course and distance last time. He’s proven at the track, remains fairly treated, and his finishing effort suggests he has the change of gear needed in a tactical race. The slight concern is run style — he can be ridden patiently — but in a race lacking pace, he shouldn’t be too far off it.
Havana Touch is the obvious alternative. He comes here off a solid second at Wolverhampton and gets the assistance of Rossa Ryan, which often signals intent. He’s likely to sit closer to the pace than most, which is a big plus given the expected race shape. The issue is his tendency to weaken late, which is not ideal in a race that could be decided by a sharp turn of foot inside the final furlong.
Nordic Norm is the main danger outside the top rating. He went very close last time and is clearly in form. However, his profile suggests a strong finisher rather than a quickener, and in a steadily run race that can leave him vulnerable to something getting first run.
The rest have questions. Chico Dulce has ability but is a habitual slow starter — a major negative here. Billy Mill and others look poorly suited by the likely pace scenario.
In a race where positioning and timing will be everything, Penfolds Grange looks the most reliable fit. He has the course form, the finishing kick, and sits exactly where the stats say the winner should come from.
Selection: Penfolds Grange
Saver: Nordic Norm
Strength: Medium
