3.32 Chepstow – Handicap Chase Preview🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a tight Class 2 handicap, but the data gives us a clear structure to work from. The TimeWise ratings and race shape point us straight towards the key players, and there’s no need to overcomplicate it.
The starting point is Blow Your Wad, who sits top of the HRB ratings and rightly so. His recent form is rock solid, finishing second at Newbury before running a big race in the Ultima at Cheltenham where he stayed on strongly in a deep field. That is comfortably the best form on offer here. He’s consistent, proven at the trip, and handles the ground. On pure ability, he’s the most likely winner.
However, this isn’t just about raw ratings. The Comment Shaper pace map suggests a steadily run race with Ben Solo likely to get an uncontested lead. That’s a significant angle. Chepstow can reward horses on the front end when there’s no pressure, and Ben Solo fits that scenario perfectly. He’s a course winner, generally races prominently, and his last run at Cheltenham can be ignored as he was out of his depth. Back in calmer waters, he’s a genuine threat to control this from the front.
That said, there are reasons to be cautious. Ben Solo has a habit of travelling well and finding less when it matters. If anything takes him on late, he’s not guaranteed to find much off the bridle.
Back to the ratings, and Jaipaletemps is the only realistic alternative to the selection. He’s progressive, in form, and has been racking up wins this season, including over course and distance. The concern is class. This is a deeper race than what he’s been winning, and he now has to prove he can deliver at this level.
Others look opposable for win purposes. Knight Of Allen will be doing his best work late, but the likely steady pace counts against him. Torneo is consistent but has stamina to prove at this trip. Olivers Travels and Soldierofthestorm have bits of form but don’t quite stack up against the top two on ratings or overall profile.
In the end, this comes down to a simple call. The pace angle makes things interesting, but the strongest and most reliable profile still belongs to Blow Your Wad. He’s proven in better races, arrives in form, and sits clear on the figures that matter most.
If the race becomes tactical, Ben Solo could make this uncomfortable. But if class tells, there’s only one answer.
Selection: Blow Your Wad (IRE)
Verdict: Medium confidence
