Burradon Stakes (1:15 Newcastle) – Pedigree vs Hype🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a small-field Listed race but a useful one from an analytical perspective because the market is heavily skewed towards projection rather than substance.
The Favourite: Billecart
Billecart heads the market on the back of a visually easy novice win over course and distance. The issue is straightforward: that form is thin. A four-runner novice tells you very little, and his RPR leaves him with a sizeable gap to bridge.
Yes, he’s by Night Of Thunder, and yes, he could improve. But at around 9/4, you are being asked to pay for improvement that has not yet been demonstrated. That’s rarely a good long-term betting position.
The Standard Setter: Andab
Andab brings the strongest form into the race. He has already performed in Group company and posted a top RPR of 112. He has also proven himself at a mile, which matters more here than raw potential.
His pedigree backs that up. Saxon Warrior provides the stamina for this trip, while the Invincible Spirit damline keeps him sharp enough for Tapeta. He is the most solid profile in the race.
The only issue is price. At around 5/2, he looks correctly priced rather than generous.
The Solid Improver: New Monarch
New Monarch is easy to underestimate. His form as a two-year-old came in deeper races than it first appears, and he returned with a straightforward win on the all-weather.
Pedigree-wise, he makes a lot of sense at a mile. Acclamation supplies pace, but the dam side brings proper stamina. That combination often produces horses who improve significantly when stepping up in trip at three.
He doesn’t need to improve dramatically to be competitive here. He just needs to progress normally.
The Overlooked Runner: Timeforshowcasing
This is where the value lies.
Timeforshowcasing has already run to a high level, including a solid effort in a Group 2 over a mile. That form is being underplayed by the market, which is focusing more on recent novice performances elsewhere.
Her pedigree suggests further improvement at this trip. Showcasing provides tactical speed, while the dam side brings stamina. She is exactly the type to progress from two to three over a mile.
At double-figure odds, she is priced as though she has something to prove. In reality, she has already achieved more than most of these.
The Others
Jel Pepper has some useful form and a strong damline, but his sire limits the ceiling slightly. He looks fairly priced rather than a standout.
Padraig Dawn is unexposed but lacks the depth of pedigree and form required for a race like this.
Alarming has bits of form but a mixed pedigree profile for this test and doesn’t look particularly well treated by the market.
Conclusion
This race comes down to a simple question: do you want to back proven ability or projected improvement?
Most likely winner: Andab
Most solid alternative: New Monarch
Best value: Timeforshowcasing
Oppose: Billecart
The key angle is that the market has overreacted to one piece of visually impressive but shallow form. Meanwhile, a filly with strong mile form and the right pedigree is sitting at a price that underestimates her chance.
That is where the edge is.
