This looks a race to keep fairly simple.
The HRB TimeWise Master says Farandaway is the one to beat. He is a clear Rank 1, and that matters because most winners come from the top two on the ratings. He arrives in form, having finally got off the mark at Newcastle, and Timeform’s view is straightforward enough: he won well, goes back into a handicap, and the step up to 7f should suit.
The race shape also looks a plus. Comment Shaper points to a strong pace, with a weak lone front runner, plenty of pressure just behind, and a high collapse risk. In plain terms, this could set up for something ridden with patience rather than a horse forcing it. Farandaway, a mid-division type with a strong late finish, fits that scenario well.
The obvious danger is Vince Le Prince. He is Rank 2 on HRB, which makes him the only serious alternative on the numbers. He has a very solid Catterick record, including three course-and-distance wins, and he returns off a fair mark. If Farandaway does not handle the race setup or the draw, Vince Le Prince is the one most likely to pick up the pieces.
Of the others, Yafaarr makes some appeal. He is a strong finisher and the pace could fall right for him, but he is only Rank 3, and that puts him behind the top pair unless you can make a very strong case. I do not think this is the race to do that.
There are a couple of equipment angles worth noting. Hostility gets a first-time visor, while Highfield Sunshine wears a first-time hood. Hostility is the more interesting of the two, but his profile suggests he may still be vulnerable late if they go too hard.
One small concern for Farandaway is the draw. A high stall is not ideal here, and that keeps confidence in check. Even so, he still has the strongest overall case. He has the best rating, the right recent form, and the race could be run to suit.
Verdict
Farandaway is the selection.
Vince Le Prince is the danger.
Yafaarr is the one for those looking beyond the top two.
