3.58 Catterick – Pace Makes the Race🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a typical low-grade handicap where the market will focus on the obvious pair — and rightly so — but the race shape is the key to unlocking it.
The Comment Shaper flags a strongly run race, with a weak lone front runner and plenty of pressure from prominent types. That usually leads to a proper test at the trip, and potentially a race that sets up for something finishing late rather than one dictating.
That immediately brings Stellarmasterpiece into sharp focus.
She’s top-rated on HRB, and more importantly, she’s a four-time course winner, including this very race. Few in this field have her level of proven suitability to Catterick. Her profile in the Comment Shaper backs it up — she’s a strong late finisher, exactly what you want in a race where the pace is expected to collapse or at least soften things up.
Timeform also points directly at the pace angle being in her favour. There’s no guesswork here — everything aligns.
The obvious danger is Tupero, ranked 2 on the ratings and clearly progressive. His Newcastle win suggested there’s more to come, and the O’Meara yard know how to place one. However, there are small but important doubts. That win came on the all-weather, and his Comment Shaper profile suggests he can weaken late, which is not ideal given how this race is likely to unfold.
If this turns into a proper stamina test off a strong gallop, he may be vulnerable to something finishing stronger.
Of the rest, Free Pic and It’s Only Fun have profiles that hint at staying on late, but they lack the class and consistency of the top two. They look more like place players if things fall right.
In races like this, sticking to the top of the ratings is usually the correct approach — and here the rank 1 horse also happens to be perfectly suited by the expected race setup.
Everything points in one direction.
