This is a low-grade Class 6 mile handicap, so there are plenty with bits and pieces of form, but the race does not need dressing up. The strongest starting point is the HRB TimeWise Master, and that makes Gladiadora the clear one to beat.
She tops the ratings, comes here in form after a recent Southwell win, and looks well suited by how this race should be run. That matters because Comment Shaper points to a strong pace, with three front runners and a high collapse risk. In plain terms, there should be enough speed on for this to set up for a horse who can sit just off the pace and finish her race properly.
That is where Gladiadora makes most appeal. She is not a tearaway, she has been running consistently, and she looks the most solid option in a race where plenty have questions to answer.
The obvious danger is Antiquity. He is second on the HRB ratings, is a course-and-distance winner, and the likely pace setup could suit him even more than the selection. He is one of the stronger late finishers in the field and if they go too hard up front, he is the one most likely to come through late. He makes plenty of sense as the main saver.
Powerful Response also has a decent ratings case and usually runs his race, but the winning habit is missing. He looks more likely to hit the frame than get his head in front.
Rosemary’s Rose is respected after improving for the yard switch, but most of that progress has come on the all-weather and this is a different test back on turf.
Timeform sides with Token Love, but there are enough doubts. He has ability from this mark, but he is not in the top two on HRB and the pace scenario may not pan out perfectly for him despite the strong tempo. At the prices, he looks more interesting than convincing.
At a bigger price, Hostelry is the one who could outrun his odds. Comment Shaper flags him as a strong late finisher and this sort of pace collapse would suit. He is not the likeliest winner, but he is one to keep on side for place purposes.
Main points
Gladiadora is the selection because she is HRB Rank 1, arrives in form and should get the race run to suit.
Antiquity is the main danger because he is HRB Rank 2, proven over course and distance, and shaped to benefit if the pace collapses.
The race shape is a major factor. There looks to be plenty of early pressure, and that could punish the more aggressive runners.
Hostelry is the value outsider for those looking beyond the obvious pair, especially if the race falls apart late.
Verdict
Selection: Gladiadora
Main danger: Antiquity
