8.30 Kempton – Tactical Race Likely to Trump Raw Ability🏇⤵️👇

·

This looks a poor Class 6 on paper, but the race shape makes it far more interesting than the grade suggests.
The Comment Shaper is crystal clear — there is no recognised front runner, only a handful who like to race prominently, and a stack of hold-up horses. That points firmly towards a steadily run race, where positioning will be crucial and those played late could easily get caught out.
That immediately puts a question mark over several of the obvious contenders.
The Ratings vs Reality Clash
Dotties Star (HRB Rank 1) heads the ratings and arrives off a win. On figures alone, he’s the one to beat. However, he is a hold-up horse who relies on a strong pace to bring his finishing kick into play. In a race lacking tempo, he risks being delivered too late.
Iwantmytimewithyou (Rank 2) is less exposed and returns off a workable mark, but comes here after a long absence. There’s also no strong indication from the race shape that she’ll get the run of things.
Take The Boat (Rank 3) is the solid, in-form option and arguably the most reliable recent performer. However, like the others, he is another who prefers to be played late — again, not ideal given how this race is likely to unfold.
The Key Angle – Pace and Position
With no front runner, this is unlikely to turn into a true test. Instead, it should favour those who can sit handy and kick early in the straight.
That brings Uzincso firmly into the picture.
A seven-time course winner, he is tactically versatile but typically races close enough to the pace to avoid trouble. Crucially, Timeform also notes that a steadily run race will suit him, which aligns perfectly with the Comment Shaper output.
He may not top the HRB ratings, but this is a clear case where race setup outweighs raw figures.
Others Briefly
Fravanco and Fiddlers Green could get decent positions but lack consistency.
Pablo Prince is reliable without being convincing.
The remainder look short of the required level or poorly suited tactically.
Verdict
This race is unlikely to be won by the horse with the best finish — it will be won by the one in the best position turning in.
The market may focus on the stronger finishers, but they are all hostage to a pace that simply isn’t there.
Uzincso makes the most appeal as the horse whose running style, course record, and race conditions all align.
Selection: UZINCSO
Saver: DOTTIES STAR
Strength: Medium
A pace-driven selection in a weak race — the setup is right, but in this grade, nothing is ever certain.
