Catterick 2.48 – Two against the field in a weak maiden🏇⤵️👇

·

This doesn’t take much solving. It’s a weak Class 4 maiden and it revolves around two horses: Jeddaal and North Force. Everything else is either exposed, limited, or relying on guesswork.

Jeddaal sets the standard, but not by a wide margin. His second at Chepstow and fourth in a Doncaster handicap are the best pieces of form on offer, and he has been running consistently around this level. The problem is obvious — he has had chances. Beaten favourite twice, and hasn’t found enough when it mattered. In a stronger race, that would be a bigger concern. Here, it just makes him vulnerable rather than opposable.

North Force is the alternative with upside. Two runs, both promising, and the Redcar second stands out given he forfeited ground at the start. The profile is that of a horse who should improve with experience, and the Frankel pedigree backs that up. He lacks Jeddaal’s depth of form, but he is far less exposed. In this field, that’s a major positive.

Red Spells Danger looks the wrong price. His form has come in better races, but the pattern is clear — he travels well enough and then doesn’t find much late on. Four runs in, and there is no sign of a breakthrough. He’s a solid yardstick, but not a convincing win proposition against less exposed types.

Decem Starr is straightforward and has run to a fair level, particularly at Leicester. He should be competitive again, but he looks more like a placer than a winner unless the top two underperform.

The rest don’t offer much. Keep It Classic has shown very little despite top connections. Talking In Kode is a complete unknown. Finlaggan has the pedigree but was well held on return and needs a big step forward.

Verdict

This is a thin race with a clear shape.

Jeddaal is the most likely winner on form, but not one to trust fully.
North Force is the danger and the one with the scope to improve past him.
Red Spells Danger is opposable at the prices.

If there’s a bet, it’s siding with potential over exposed form — but only narrowly.
