5.15 Southwell – Straightforward angles, no excuses🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a typical Class 5 where you don’t need to overcomplicate things. The data, the track bias and the profiles all point in a clear direction if you’re willing to trust them.

Race shape – nothing extreme

Comment Shaper suggests a possible lone front runner in Everyoneknowsadave, but the key detail is being missed if you just skim it:

The front-runner is weak

The early pace is only moderate

Low collapse risk

That combination matters. It tells you this is unlikely to turn into a burn-up, but equally the leader isn’t good enough to dominate and stretch the field. These races are often decided by solid, proven stayers who finish their race properly, not flashy travellers or doubtful characters.

Ratings – stick to the basics

The TimeWise Master ratings are very clear:

1. Tortured Soul

2. Bint Al Daar

3. Pleasant Man

Historically, most winners come from the top two. Ignore that at your peril.

The key runners

Tortured Soul is the obvious starting point and, frankly, the correct one. His course and distance record reads 11221, which tells you everything about how well he handles Southwell. He’s in form, he stays well, and he finishes his races strongly. In a race lacking a convincing pace angle, that profile is gold dust.

Bint Al Daar is the only one who makes real appeal against him. She’s a recent C&D winner, stays well and fits the race shape. She’s not bombproof, but she’s solid enough and clearly second best on the numbers.

Pleasant Man will attract support again, but he’s become hard to back with any confidence. Consistent, yes, but he doesn’t get his head in front and has a tendency to weaken when it matters. At the prices, he looks opposable.

The rest

Everyoneknowsadave may get an easy lead, but lacks the strength to fully capitalise

Optician has a strong finishing profile but returns from a long absence

Bystander is well handicapped on old form but hasn’t shown enough recently

They all need something to fall perfectly.

Verdict

This isn’t a race to get clever with. The ratings, the track form and the race setup all point the same way.

Tortured Soul is the one to beat and the most likely winner.
Bint Al Daar is the only realistic danger.

Confidence: Strong

Everything lines up. When that happens in races like this, you keep it simple and side with the obvious one.
