2.10 Leopardstown (16 runners)Look De Vega At Ballylinch Stud Fillies Maiden🏇⤵️👇

·

Leopardstown 2.10 on Sunday is a fillies’ maiden over a mile on good to yielding ground, and while there are plenty of blue-blooded pedigrees on show, the race does not look especially complicated from a quality point of view.
Thundering On sets the standard. She has already shown useful form, including a second in Group 3 company at the Curragh over a mile, and that is comfortably the best established piece of racecourse evidence in the field. On pedigree, she is exactly what you want for this test: by Frankel out of Thundering Nights, a Group 1 winner at Leopardstown. That is not just fashionable breeding, it is race-specific breeding. She looks built for a mile, built for this track, and built to improve again at three. She is the obvious one.
The main threat is Skydance, who also brings proper substance. She has already run to a high level in Pattern company and her pedigree backs that up. Night Of Thunder is a strong sire for improving milers, and her dam side has genuine depth. She is not simply a big-ticket yearling with a reputation attached; she has already shown enough to suggest this sort of maiden is below the level she should be operating at long term. If Thundering On underperforms, Skydance is the one most likely to take advantage.
Behind those two, the race becomes more interesting from a market point of view.
Beatific is the standout pedigree angle among the newcomers. She is by Frankel out of a Pivotal mare, which is a very strong mix for a Leopardstown mile. There is class from the sire, tactical sharpness and ground versatility from the damsire, and the overall profile says she should be ready for this sort of trip straight away. She lacks experience, but on pedigree she does not need to be ordinary.
Institute is another with plenty of quality on paper. Being by Frankel gives her obvious appeal, but the dam, Acapulco, was a sharp, high-class sprinting juvenile, so this is not a completely straightforward mile pedigree despite the sire influence. There is ability there, no question, but the market may give her extra credit simply because of the stable and the page. She is respected, but not bombproof.
Purely has a classy pedigree as well. Siyouni out of Curvy, with Galileo as damsire, gives her a lot of appeal in terms of long-term potential. The concern is not ability, but whether this exact test is her sweet spot right now. She shapes more like a filly who may be better with time and perhaps further than a mile. That does not rule her out, but it does make her a risk if she is short in the market.
Justiciar fits the race well enough. Wootton Bassett and Zoffany combine to give her a sensible mile profile and she has already shown a fair level of ability. She does not look to have quite the upside of the top pair, but she is credible and should not be dismissed.
Of the bigger-priced runners, Elmakaya is one to keep in mind. The page is stronger than it may first appear, with Wootton Bassett over Siyouni, and that is the type of cross that can produce a useful filly for this trip. She lacks the proven substance of the market leaders, but she is one of the more interesting under-the-radar pedigrees in the field.
Indomiknow is another who makes some appeal at likely bigger odds. Invincible Spirit over Pivotal is a solid mile cross, and although the dam’s record is not strong, the overall pedigree gives her a better chance of being competitive than a bare glance at the page might suggest.
The exposed outsiders look up against it. Sands Castle, Hiltons Pass and Lamberella do not bring enough in either form or pedigree to make a strong case. Rodeo Blues may attract some attention on connections and sales background, but the pedigree leans more towards speed than a strongly-run Leopardstown mile on easing ground. Grey Intentions is not without interest for later in the year, especially over further, but this may still come a bit sharp in terms of class.
The race really comes down to whether the proven class of Thundering On is enough to hold off another smart filly in Skydance, and whether one of the well-bred newcomers can step straight into that bracket. On what is already known, Thundering On deserves to head the market and should take a lot of beating. Skydance is the clear danger. Beatific looks the most interesting newcomer, while Elmakaya and Indomiknow are the ones who could easily outrun bigger prices.
Main points Thundering On has the best form and the best race-specific pedigree.
Skydance is the strongest alternative with solid Group-level form.
Beatific is the newcomer with the most interesting pedigree for this exact test.
Institute and Purely have obvious class, but neither is an automatic fit for this mile.
Elmakaya and Indomiknow are the quieter pedigree angles if the market misses them.
