4.30 Wincanton (4 runners)Bruton Mares Handicap Chase🏇⤵️👇

·

This is a tight four-runner mares’ chase where tactics will play a big role, but the HRB ratings make the starting point obvious.
Queens Gamble is a clear standout at the top of the TimeWise Master ratings and that alone carries significant weight. Rank 1 runners dominate these races long term, and she isn’t just marginally ahead — she’s comfortably clear of her rivals.
Her form backs that up. She’s already a course-and-distance winner in listed company, and her latest run against a progressive gelding reads better than anything the others bring into this. Dropping back into mares’ company is a big plus.
The race shape is key and firmly in her favour. There’s only one likely front runner in Northern Air, and the expected pace is steady. At this trip around Wincanton, that setup tends to favour horses racing handily rather than those coming from off the pace. Queens Gamble is expected to sit prominently, which should give her a tactical advantage in a race where positioning will be crucial.
She also has a strong finishing profile, regularly staying on well, which is important given the moderate collapse risk — this is unlikely to fall apart completely, so you want a horse that travels well and still finds off the bridle.
Obsessedwithyou is the main danger, and rightly so as the Rank 2 horse. She’s consistent and finishes her races well, but the six-month absence is a concern in a small, tactical field where sharpness matters.
The other two look up against it. Somespring Special has bits of form but lacks the consistency and ratings strength, while Northern Air may get an easy lead but is out of the handicap and has a tendency to weaken late.
The key points are simple:
Queens Gamble is clear top-rated and proven at the track
The race setup favours her prominent running style
She brings the strongest and most reliable form into the race
The main danger has a fitness question to answer
Everything points in one direction.
Queens Gamble is the selection — and it’s a strong one.
