1m, fillies & mares, 4yo+, Good ground
12 runners
This looks a strong tactical Group 2 with several mares arriving from differing campaigns and fitness levels. The Curragh mile on good ground usually rewards a blend of tactical pace and the ability to see the trip out strongly. Draw bias is rarely severe over this course and distance, though wide stalls can be inconvenienced if the early pace steadies and the field compresses. With no confirmed front-running specialist, positioning and turn-of-foot could prove decisive rather than outright stamina.
Pace assessment
Princess Child, California Dreamer and possibly Sindria are capable of racing prominently. City Of Memphis has shown tactical speed at 7f and should secure a handy stalking position. One Look and Jancis are generally more comfortable settling before finishing strongly. A steadily run race would favour tactical speed and race fitness, bringing City Of Memphis right into the centre of the equation.
Race shape and weighting of factors
For this contest, race fitness, tactical positioning and suitability to a fast-run mile on good ground should be weighted slightly more heavily than pure ratings. Several runners return from layoffs or are arguably better at 1m2f. A sharp, tactical Curragh mile can expose those lacking recent match practice.
Strongest contenders
City Of Memphis (9.5/10) p
Very persuasive profile. She shaped with considerable promise in last season’s Irish 1,000 Guineas when still immature and keen, and now returns as a more complete filly. Two wins this spring suggest she has strengthened physically and mentally. Her Leopardstown Group 3 success was authoritative and the return to a mile should suit ideally. Race fitness is a major asset over stablemate One Look. Proven on good ground, tactically versatile and still improving. Looks particularly well suited to the likely pace scenario.
Jancis (9/10)
Produced a career-best when winning the Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket. Her Timeform/RPR figures place her right at the top of this field. The key question is whether she reproduces that level away from quicker ground and back at a sharper mile after 1m1f. If the ground remains genuinely good rather than easing, she is a major danger. Strong late sectionals at Newmarket suggest she arrives in peak form.
One Look (8.5/10) p
High-class mare with excellent Curragh form and arguably the strongest established Group profile. However, there are two concerns: she may now be slightly better over 1m2f, and she returns from 218 days off. James Doyle is a notable booking and her class is obvious, but fitness and tactical sharpness are legitimate questions in a race likely to favour sharper types.
Main dangers
Celestial Orbit (8/10) p
Interesting improver for Joseph O’Brien. Her C&D Group 3 success on seasonal return hinted at another step forward. She travelled strongly there and showed determination late on. Good ground is fine, though her standout recent effort came with more ease. Draw 12 is not ideal if the pace steadies. Still relatively unexposed at this level.
Princess Child (7.5/10)
Reliable Group-class mare who handles most conditions. Her second to Celestial Orbit here reads well enough and she was not disgraced behind City Of Memphis last time. However, she may just lack the tactical speed of the principals at a truly-run mile on good ground.
Francophone (7/10)
Useful Listed-class mare who struggled to land a blow behind Jancis at Newmarket. Capable of running respectably but vulnerable against stronger Group performers unless the race collapses late.
Interesting outsiders
Sindria (6.5/10) P
Progressive this spring with back-to-back Gowran wins. This is a steep rise in class, but she is improving and could outrun bigger expectations if the pace becomes attritional. Still has to prove she belongs at Group 2 level.
Stateira (6/10) P
Excellent all-weather profile and arrives in form, but turf remains the major unknown. Faces a substantial class rise and this asks much more than recent Newcastle handicaps.
Others
California Dreamer (5.5/10)
Excellent Irish 1,000 Guineas effort last season still stands out, but overall turf strike-rate is poor and she remains inconsistent.
Hey Boo (5/10)
Absent 240 days and likely to improve for the run. Capable mare but difficult to support in this company first time back.
Quebec (4.5/10)
Needs major improvement on Irish debut form.
Carolina Jetstream (3/10)
Useful AW mare but well short of this level on turf evidence.
Hold-up risks needing luck in running
Jancis and One Look may require a genuinely-run race and clear passage late. In tactical Curragh miles, hold-up types can become vulnerable if the pace steadies.
Trainer and jockey angles
Paddy Twomey’s stable continues in excellent form and he holds a particularly strong hand with City Of Memphis and One Look. Joseph O’Brien runs four and has targeted this meeting effectively in recent seasons. W J Lee knows City Of Memphis well and should secure an ideal stalking trip.

Summary
This revolves around whether the race-fitness and progression of City Of Memphis can outweigh the established class of Jancis and One Look. The tactical shape of the race strongly favours City Of Memphis, who appears to be developing into a top-class miler and still retains upside. Jancis sets the standard on recent form but may need things to fall perfectly from off the pace. One Look has the class to win but may just be vulnerable fresh.
Smart Plays
Win: City Of Memphis
Each-way saver: Celestial Orbit
Jancis is the chief danger, while One Look is respected but opposable at short enough odds returning from a lengthy break.
