Race Overview:
A competitive 0–85 three-year-old handicap over nearly a mile on quick ground. The pace is forecast to be strong, which generally favours prominent runners at Haydock.

Strongest Contenders:
MAGELLAN CLOUD (TFR: 94p)
Trainer: John & Sean Quinn | Jockey: Jason Hart
Shaped well when third on handicap debut at Musselburgh off a five-month break following gelding. Ran better than the result, getting short of room in the straight. With a more favourable run style for this setup and improvement expected, he holds leading claims.
BOSTON RUN (IRE) (TFR: 92)
Trainer: Hugo Palmer | Jockey: Tom Marquand
Runner-up over C&D a fortnight ago in a solid time when fitted with cheekpieces for the first time. Gelded over the winter and looks to have stepped forward. The wide draw is a slight concern, but should be in the mix if he breaks well.
NEVER LET GO (TFR: 90)
Trainer: Ed Walker | Jockey: Paul Mulrennan
Another lightly raced type with progression in her. Won a Wolverhampton novice late last year and was a close third at Wetherby on seasonal/handicap debut, doing good late work. A strong pace would suit her running style. Walker’s string is flying, which enhances her profile.
—
Main Dangers:
FOOTWORK (TFR: 88)
Trainer: Charlie Johnston | Jockey: Joe Fanning
A front-runner who faded late at Goodwood on reappearance, probably needing the run. Proven at this trip and from a yard that places them well. Could benefit from being ideally placed if able to dictate early.
ROSEMARY MAY (IRE) (TFR: 85)
Trainer: Tim Easterby | Jockey: Duran Fentiman
Made all to win a 14-runner Ayr maiden last time out, rallying well under pressure. Steps into handicap company now with a progressive profile. Easterby is in good form and the filly could improve again, though the draw and pace setup may not favour her.
—
Interesting Outsider:
KIRKDALE (IRE) (TFR: 86)
Trainer: Edward Bethell | Jockey: PJ McDonald
Ran flat on reappearance at Southwell but was progressive last season and is bred to be useful. Might come on for that run and could be well-handicapped if he puts it all together.
—
Others:
PAPPA LOUIS (TFR: 84): Newmarket nursery winner but looked rusty on return. Needs to show more.
DEFENCE MISSILE (IRE) (TFR: 88?): Pulled up on stable debut and looks hard to fancy on current evidence. Watch for future.
—
Trends & Notes:
Trainer Watch: Hugo Palmer (Boston Run) and Tim Easterby (Rosemary May) have both been among the winners this week.
Previous Winners: Typically, winners have carried around 9st–9st3lb, and many have been unexposed or on their handicap debut.
Market Movers: Horses returning off long layoffs (Footwork, Kirkdale, Pappa Louis) – check market signals for support or signs of drift closer to the off.
—
Summary:
Magellan Cloud ticks several boxes with a promising profile, top Timeform rating, and scope to progress from his encouraging return. Boston Run and Never Let Go head the dangers, while Footwork may be the pace angle. Kirkdale is the dark horse if bouncing back.
