Going: Good to Soft (Soft in places)
Field: 11 runners
Pace Forecast: Very Weak
Draw Bias: Favours Low
—
1. Race Setup and Tactical Picture
This is a Class 5 novice stakes over 1m2f featuring a mix of lightly raced three-year-olds and older types, most of whom are still learning their craft. The pace is expected to be very weak, with little obvious front-running intent. That raises the likelihood of a tactical affair which could disadvantage hold-up horses needing a strong tempo.
Low draws are generally favoured on this turning track, particularly when the ground is riding soft in places and there’s a lack of pace, which can make track position more valuable.

2. Contenders and Noteworthy Runners
NAHRAAN (TFR 93p) – Strongest contender.
Gosden-trained colt who overcame inexperience to make a successful debut at Wolverhampton, conceding the run and finishing powerfully to score. The sectional note flags a potent turn of foot. He looks a cut above this company, with a top pedigree and physical scope to improve at this longer trip. Should be able to overcome a steady gallop. Likely winner if progressing again.
EARTHWATCH (TFR 71) – Main danger.
Haggas-trained and open to further progress over this trip. Shaped well enough on debut but faded late when upped to 10f last time. With a better ride under Tom Marquand, could hold place claims. Worth noting that William Haggas has had two winners in this race in the past seven runnings.
RELOCAL (TFR 72) – Interesting outsider.
Roger Varian colt with a €200,000 yearling tag. Fair form so far, shaping better than bare result last time at Leicester. Ground should suit and one of the likelier place candidates if stepping forward.
JUPITER AMMON (TFR 70) – Each-way consideration.
Andrew Balding’s runner improved sharply from debut and looked a stayer at Chelmsford when keeping on in a strongly-run race. Should appreciate this step up in trip and if he handles turf, could outrun his mark.
GALLIC LEGEND – Hold-up type, risky.
Returned from a 214-day absence when well beaten on debut. Gelded since and bred to be useful, but may need this. Trainer James Ferguson is in form, so market support would be noteworthy.
TEAM PLAYER, KILIMA, GREGORIANS STAR, DEFERRED INTEREST – All need major improvement. The latter three were well beaten recently and would be surprise package territory. Note Gregorians Star is Sheena West’s only runner of the day – she has shown profit to level stakes in that scenario.
FLAME DANCER – Loughnane-trained debutant with a pedigree suggesting this trip will suit. Yard has been profitable with debut runners, so not to be dismissed outright in a weak race.
JONNIE – Bit of promise at Epsom but was left behind quickly; likely more needed.

6. Summary
This novice stakes revolves around Nahraan, who sets a clear standard and has the profile of a colt bound for better things. The lack of pace shouldn’t hinder him given his strong finishing ability shown on debut. Behind him, Earthwatch, Relocal and Jupiter Ammon can fight it out for the places, with all having the potential to progress over this longer trip. Keep an eye on market moves for Gallic Legend (returning from 214 days) and Flame Dancer (debut).
