Going: Good to Soft (Soft in places)
1. Race Conditions and Pace/Draw Analysis
This Class 2 five-furlong handicap is a Qualifier for the Fitzdares Sprint Series, attracting 11 runners rated up to 100. The pace forecast is very strong, with several habitual front-runners engaged, including Regal Envoy, Law of Average, and Fidelius, suggesting the race may set up for those who can settle and finish strongly. No draw bias is reported here, but given the likely end-to-end gallop, track position may play less of a role than racing style.
2. Contenders, Dangers, Outsiders & Key Trends
Strongest Contenders:
Change Sings [TFR 110] – In excellent form this season; touched off narrowly over 6f last time here. The drop to a sharp 5f on easier ground is a plus, and he stays strongly in a field packed with speed. Generally races prominently but not headstrong – that may be ideal here.
Miraculous [TFR 105p] – Unexposed 3yo making his handicap debut for Roger Varian (19% strike rate with such runners). Gelded since last seen and drops from 7f to 5f, which looks a move to harness natural speed. Will need to settle better but has potential.
Regal Envoy [TFR 105] – Back-to-back wins at Windsor and Newmarket in May. Regularly races prominently and is well suited by sharp 5f tracks. Stays 6f but may be harried early, with other pace around.
Main Dangers:
Miss Attitude [TFR 109] – Hot yard (Jack Channon), and back to form when fifth at York behind a subsequent winner. Notably, she was best of the hold-up horses that day and shaped as if ready to strike. Needs luck in running given her style, but the strong pace could bring her late kick into play.
Woolhampton [TFR 106] – Course winner and often underestimated. She’s better than her recent form figures suggest, and should get a race run to suit for once. Still has to prove she’s fully tuned up this season.
Fidelius [TFR 108] – Another prominent racer, rated 82, but with past form against better-class opposition. Form slightly patchy but shaped well at Nottingham latest and could slip under the radar if able to track rather than force.
Interesting Outsiders:
Rosario [TFR 105] – Won at Goodwood in May but was reportedly inconvenienced when losing a front shoe last time. He’s not always reliable at the stalls but has the ability if things fall right.
Michaela’s Boy [TFR 107] – Another Cowell runner, and while out of form last time, has ability. Note he had wind surgery earlier in the year.
Significant Timeform Comments & Trends:
Miss Attitude and Miraculous both flagged as best when held up, and could benefit from how the race sets up.
Jack Channon (Miss Attitude) and Simon & Ed Crisford (Adrestia) both show strong recent stable form.
Robert Cowell (trains Jakajaro, Fidelius, and Michaela’s Boy) is cold currently, but has a level stakes profit with horses off a break.
No past winning trainers represented from recent renewals.
3. Runner Ratings (Out of 10)
Change Sings – 9
Miraculous – 8
Miss Attitude – 8
Regal Envoy – 8
Woolhampton – 7
Fidelius – 7
Rosario – 6
Michaela’s Boy – 6
Adrestia – 5 (watch the market, 282 days off)
Law Of Average – 5 (well beaten in Temple Stakes return)
Jakajaro – 4 (fitness to prove after 100 days off, ex-Marnane)
Market Watch Advice:
Adrestia and Miraculous: Monitor closely for support – 282 and 114 days off respectively and either could be primed.
Jakajaro: 100 days off and switches from Marnane to Cowell – any market support would be significant.
Miss Attitude: In-form yard, quick return after shaping well at York.
Sprinters returning within 2 weeks: Watch Change Sings, Regal Envoy, and Miss Attitude closely – they may be peaking.
4. Each-Way Angles (11 runners)
Miss Attitude: Suited by pace setup, returns quickly, and her mark is fair.
Fidelius: Not ideally drawn but may get a good tow into the race and could nick a place.
5. Private Tissue Estimate (100% book)
Change Sings – 7/2
Miraculous – 5/1
Miss Attitude – 11/2
Regal Envoy – 6/1
Woolhampton – 10/1
Fidelius – 12/1
Rosario – 14/1
Michaela’s Boy – 16/1
Adrestia – 16/1
Law Of Average – 25/1
Jakajaro – 33/1
6. Summary
This looks a well-contested sprint that should be run at a blistering pace. Change Sings has been thriving at 6f and now gets a strong pace to aim at back at 5f – that looks ideal. Miraculous is a wildcard making his handicap debut for an in-form yard and remains with upside. Miss Attitude, meanwhile, could fly home if granted a clear run late. Given the setup, it might pay to side with strong travellers and closers over those who rely on controlling the race from the front. Watch the market closely for the Varian runner and any significant support for those off layoffs.
